Social Media Fast

From Sunday, March 26 to Monday, March 27, I will be on a social media fast. On Monday, I will check in online but it will be in the evening. During this time, pray that the Lord will impress on me next steps and that my creativity gets a refresh.

Some prayer requests for this week:

  • I start my new job on Tuesday.
  • I attend Solid Rock Christian Fellowship’s week long missions festival starting Thursday.
  • TRC Magazine publishes on Friday. Pray for me as I continue putting it all together and getting it ready for Friday in spite of my busy schedule.

Did You Sign Up For My Prayer Newsletter?

Newsletters are done differently with me. Others in my position may send out a newsletter monthly or quarterly (even once a year). Every person should read articles on newsletter marketing. With an average of 50% open rate, newsletters shouldn’t be your only form of communication, but it should be sent out frequently in short bursts for various reasons. I segment my newsletters to respect those that only want to hear from me once a month to those that enjoy reading my devotions at weekly.

My newsletters are also a part of my ministry. Newsletters can influence people. It can provide support and prayer. You can encourage or inform someone with your newsletter. Every person who writes a newsletter should learn how to tell stories. Here’s how it works:

Monthly

My digest newsletter that is sent out on the first day of each month (or that week) gives my prayer requests in brief and also shares the prayer requests from those who have signed up for my newsletter. Links from missed newsletters are also included in case you wish to read them. Upcoming events are shared. This is kept short and to the point.

Weekly

My weekly newsletters are usually medium length with videos or photos. They are written devotional-style, sharing a story from the field, prayer requests, thoughts from morning devotions, reminders of upcoming events, or challenges I am facing. If you open my newsletters more than once per month, you are automatically put on this list. Mail Chimp has a rating system and auto updates my lists.

If you would like to get a bigger picture, sign up here for my newsletter. Otherwise, to really get a clear picture of what I am doing with WorldVenture, please attend one of my Living Room Sessions. These happen once monthly.

For those of you already on the newsletter, your prayer requests are due the last day of the month to be included in the digest newsletter.

Note to churches: If you need to print something for your records, I suggest using the monthly digest as it gives a listing rather than a story of what is happening and upcoming. I also do not post everything online. If you follow me on Facebook or my other social media platforms, they do not give the whole picture or share everything that is happening behind the scenes. For an accurate picture, subscribe here.

Social Media Fast (Nov. 20 – 22)

Will you pray for me to reach 100% funding by mid-next year?

I am taking a social media fast for the next couple of days. All emails and notifications online will be answered on Wednesday. Please pray for God to strengthen me, lift me up via His Word, and for me to have a clearer vision on where to go and who to talk to.

If you have received an invitation to my End of Year Celebration, please come.

Live Prayer Update: Psalm 5

Live Prayer is ongoing as we speak. You can view the live version or the recorded version on my social networks. Today’s verse is Psalm 5:

Psalm 5

For the music leader. For the flutes. A psalm of David.

Hear my words, Lord!
    Consider my groans!
Pay attention to the sound of my cries, my king and my God,
because I am praying to you!
Lord, in the morning you hear my voice.
In the morning I lay it all out before you.
    Then I wait expectantly.
Because you aren’t a God
    who enjoys wickedness;
    evil doesn’t live with you.
Arrogant people won’t last long
in your sight;
    you hate all evildoers;
    you destroy liars.
The Lord despises people who are violent and dishonest.

But me? I will enter your house
    because of your abundant, faithful love;
I will bow down at your holy temple,
        honoring you.
Lord, because of many enemies,
please lead me in your righteousness.
    Make your way clear,
        right in front of me.
Because there’s no truth in my enemies’ mouths,
all they have inside them is destruction.
    Their throats are open graves;
    their tongues slick with talk.
10 Condemn them, God!
Let them fail by their own plans.
Throw them out for their many sins
    because they’ve rebelled against you.
11 But let all who take refuge in you celebrate.
Let them sing out loud forever!
Protect them
so that all who love your name
    can rejoice in you.
12 Because you, Lord, bless the righteous.
You cover them with favor like a shield.

Live Prayer Update: Psalm 4

Live Prayer Going On Now

Go to Facebook page, personal, Periscope, or Twitter between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.

Psalm 4

For the music leader. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David.

Answer me when I cry out, my righteous God!
Set me free from my troubles!
        Have mercy on me!
        Listen to my prayer!

How long, you people,
    will my reputation be insulted?
How long will you continue
    to love what is worthless
    and go after lies? Selah
Know this: the Lord takes
    personal care of the faithful.
The Lord will hear me
when I cry out to him.
So be afraid, and don’t sin!
Think hard about it in your bed
    and weep over it! Selah
Bring righteous offerings,
    and trust the Lord!

Many people say,
    “We can’t find goodness anywhere.
The light of your face has left us, Lord!”
But you have filled my heart with more joy
than when their wheat and wine are everywhere!
I will lie down and fall asleep in peace
because you alone, Lord, let me live in safety.

Morning Devotions: Consequences of Sin

I’m in Genesis 19 and Lot’s daughters got their father drunk and lay with him, becoming pregnant. Interestingly enough, the desire to get pregnant outside of the Lord’s will and through sin brought on generations of peoples who worshiped other gods. The Moabites offered human sacrifice to their god, Chemosh. (2 Kings 3:27). The Ammonites, “…joined the Syrians in their wars with the Maccabees and were defeated by Judas (1 Mac 5:6). Their religion was a degrading and cruel superstition. Their chief god was Molech, or Moloch, to whom they offered human sacrifices (1 Kings 11:7) against which Israel was especially warned (Leviticus 20:2-5). This worship was common to other tribes for we find it mentioned among the Phoenicians. (from here)”

I’m thinking of our world and how the determination to gain something overrides the moral compass. Cutting corners, cheating others, corrupting compassion, taking and never giving, and how some jobs are no better than a sweat shop with a total disregard for humanity, instead craving profit. If our desires go outside of God’s desires, I think of instances like Genesis 19 and I wonder what the consequences will be for generations to come on people and families?
Lastly, Observe that, after this, we never read any more of Lot, nor what became of him: no doubt he repented of his sin, and was pardoned; but from the silence of the scripture concerning him henceforward we may learn that drunkenness, as it makes men forgetful, so it makes them forgotten; and many a name, which otherwise might have been remembered with respect, is buried by it in contempt and oblivion.
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

What is Live Prayer?

Every Thursday most of my social networks will use the live video feeds to conduct a “live prayer.” This is a two-way conversation. Unfortunately, until I raise 100% support, I have to work this around my day job. So prayers will usually be conducted between 4:45 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. MST unless I have that day off.

Sometimes, a Live Prayer might feature a guest. If we do have guests, more than likely prayers will happen later in the day. If I am conducting those prayers with a guest, it will happen at 11:30 a.m. MST.

I would love if you joined me and others during this time. Please share public requests only. Recent events have made me realize that prayer is so important. Being a Christian isn’t a guarantee that you will be safe. Dangers lurk in uncommon places. Prayer is the weapon of choice to hold up His people and protect them on their way Home.
